By that, I mean that my 3 yo would eat baby carrots. Only. But he had to eat three. At age four he had to add a new veggie and he began to eat slices of cucumber. Not much nutrition but it was green. Then he added cherry tomatoes and I purchased them all winter to be sure he didn't get out of the habit. By the time he turned six he had added crunchy lettuce and cooked green beans to his veggie list and we stopped counting at meals soon after.<br /><br />No "salad" meant no dessert, which is supposed to be taboo. But it worked here. We've got sweet teeth (tooths?) in our family and finish every dinner with 2 cookies. Living without them wasn't a horrid punishment, but it did get the point across.<br /><br />When I'm with groups of little kiddies (I'm a preschool teacher) I insist on them eating their "growing foods" first and I don't let gummi fruits work as a growing food.
